Childhood Sweethearts

Writing, poetry, arts

His snowflake hair tumbled

over his worm infested forehead.

Creases in his shirt echoed

the crow etching it's feet

deep down near

his sunken dull eyes.

His ashtray breathe lit up

her dragon's.

He fell down on one creaky knee.

From the freshly picked rose

came 'Marry Me!'

She huffed, she puffed

it was debatable. His wages

were low. His snoring reached hieghts -

that she never liked to go.

He wallowed too long, watching tv.

Turned in to a soldier - marched

for last orders.

Whilst 'Marry Me!' did all the chores.

Stuck on the floor - both knees were sore.

His pleading grey eyes glistened.

The sweat bled from his pores,

 to his banging heart he

listened. For a moment or two

he just wasn't sure. He took it

for granted that she

would adore.

The cracker ring slid

on her worn-out finger.

Her other hand lay

on her fat surprise.

He high jumped the fence

with news to deliver.

Hijacked the pub

to celebrate.

As 'Marry Me!' stood home indoors

doing the bleeding chores.

In faith I do not love thee with mine eyes,
For they in thee a thousand errors note;
But ’tis my heart that loves what they despise,
Who, in despite of view, is pleased to dote.
Nor are mine ears with thy tongue’s tune delighted;
Nor tender feeling, to base touches prone,
Nor taste, nor smell, desire to be invited
To any sensual feast with thee alone:
But my five wits nor my five senses can
Dissuade one foolish heart from serving thee
